Abstract

Mixtures of 5,6,7,7 a-tetrahydro-3 H-pyrrolizin-3-one (1) and 5,6,7,7 a-tetrahydro-3 H-pyrrolizin-7 a-ol-3-one (2) isolated from shaken cultures of Streptomyces griseus exhibited contact killing effects on larvae of Leptinotarsa decemlineata and Aedes aegypti comparable with those of macrotetrolides and the commercial bioinsecticide Bactoculicid, respectively. Galleria mellonella (caterpillars), Anagasta kühniella and Tetranychus urticae were insensitive to this action. © 1992 Institute of Microbiology, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.
