Abstract

The second half of the sixteenth century saw the transition from a geocentric to a heliocentric worldview. Although the Copernican system was generally received with scepticism, it certainly stirred an interest. With the introduction of the intermediate system of Tycho Brahe, a gradual shift took place towards the Keplerian elliptical model. This chapter explores the work of astronomers associated in one way or another with Antwerp.
