Abstract

This paper, The Battered-Child Syndrome, written by C. Henry Kempe and his colleagues, and published in July of 1962 in The Journal of the American Medical Association, brought professional and public attention to the issue of child abuse and neglect. It forms the basis of the commentaries included in succeeding chapters in this section of the book.
