This study proposes a new modulation scheme for three-phase matrix converters. A three-phase matrix converter consists of three inverters that operate in the same order but with different usage rates. This modulation scheme uses a classic comparator of carrier and control signals. The only physical quantity used for modulation is the zero-cross signal of the input voltage. When using this method, the output voltage is obtained by multiplying the average dc voltage by the control signal. The input current is obtained by multiplying the 'average dc current' by a sine wave. This scheme has many advantages over traditional methods. Four types of tests were conducted and the results showed that the method can be applied in practical use. The proposed method is a standard modulation method that can be used for widely used matrix converters, such as voltage source inverters.
