Abstract

(from the chapter) Cognitive behavioral therapies encompass a range of procedures, a number of which have been found efficacious in treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These include variations of exposure, cognitive restructuring, and anxiety management training, as well as combinations of methods. This chapter reviews the cognitive behavioral treatments that have been studied in PTSD populations and describes the theories underlying the treatments and the research literature examining their efficacy.
