The purpose of this article is to describe the development of generic and specific competences through the implementation of laboratory experiences in the framework of general physics course at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture in Luis Amigó Catholic University in Medellín, Colombia. The activities are shown in the manuscript and a comparative statistical analysis of the academic performance of the students is made with and without the implementations of such activities. We can conclude that the inclusion of laboratory experiences and their complementation with videos improves the learning process of the course content and help the development of the scientific thinking.
