Abstract

In this paper we leverage the characteristics of Scalable Video Coding(SVC) and Peer-to-Peer(P2P) networks in order to present an efficient and adaptive mechanism. The proposed scheme integrate the P2P system and SVC together for video media streaming.Furthermore, considering the asymmetric links we classify the P2P system to different classes according to both download and uplink bandwidth. Peer belonging to different class receives base layer and different amount of enhancement layers to have a specified quality. Peers in each class are organized as a mesh-based network. And also we propose several video streaming transferring rules to reduce the link burden and improve utilization performance. Simulation result shows that the proposed scheme achieve low packet drop rates and delay specially for asymmetric links. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
