Abstract

The relatively large piezoresistance coefficients relating resistance change to stress in certain semiconductor single crystals make them potentially attractive as sensing elements for the measurement of strain, force, torque, acceleration, etc. The use of not only longitudinal, but also transverse and shear effects will be illustrated. The response of some of the more promising materials will be reviewed and the special features of certain particular orientations will be discussed.
