Organelles found in the lOOOxg fraction of latex taken from Papaver somniferum have been shown to accumulate dopamine to the exclusion of other catecholamines. Dopamine accumulation is both temperature and pH dependent and there is no evident requirement for ATP (1 mM) or Mg2+ (2 mM). The relatively high (4.37 mM), specificity of dopamine uptake, and insensitivity to inhibitors distinguish papaver latex organelle dopamine uptake from catecholamine uptake by mammalian chromaffin granules. © 1984, Walter de Gruyter.
