Abstract

This text intends to show how Gender Studies can collaborate with Social History from three axis of argumentation: 1) it discusses the relevance of Gender Studies for a more accurate understanding of the social characteristics under a historical perspective. 2) It examines two of the theoretical-methodological approaches on the social construction of sexual differences adopted in History works; revisits the proposal developed from the angle of Social History confronted with post-structuralist proposal of J. Scott based in two programs clearly adopted by both: a) highlight human agency possibilities and b) face general questions of historical discipline from a gender perspective. 3) It shows how the debate concerning those approaches collaborates for research activities and theoretical reflection. © 2009 Revista Estudos Feministas.
