Abstract

We compared stereoscopic displays (3D) with monocular displays (2D) by experimenting on the manipulation of forceps with a laparoscope. The task consisted of repetitive movements of the tip of the forceps under both conditions to targets. Time for manipulation with a 3D display was significantly shorter than for a 2D display. Little significant difference was observed for the psychological indexes. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.
