Abstract

Adolescent’s nutritional status is one of the problems of public health nutrition. Adolescents or teenagersare a group that is sensitive to nutrition which has an impact on increasing the prevalence of degenerativediseases due to excess nutrition. This study aimed to analyze the effect of family-based empowerment onthe teenager’s nutrition status in Tana Toraja. The research design used a quasy-experiment with a pre-testand post-test design with a control group design. It was carried out on 64 overweight students consistingof 32 intervention groups and 32 control groups as well as simple random sampling and data analysisusing Hotelling’s T² test. The results showed that family-based empowerment was significant in reducingoverweight case due to adolescent’s nutritionalstatus against obesity prevention with a value of p = 0.000<0.05. The conclusion of this study is that there is an effect of family-based empowerment on the adolescent’snutritional status in Tana Toraja. It can be a reflection for teenagers who have experienced an overweightnutritional status so they can adopt a healthy diet. This study shall performed further in public nutritionalstatus.
