Research groups at educational institutions, as formal working bodies, develop forms of collaboration that may be studied from the perspective of social network analysis (SNA). With the aim of revealing how the characteristics of the network influence the effectiveness and attainment of tasks by these research groups, research was carried out that sought possible relationships between the intellection production of research groups and the different metrics used in social network analysis. The results of the research reveal the existence of a statistically significant, positive relationship between intellectual production and indicators of degree and intermediation. In addition, a significant, positive relationship was found between the intellectual production of research groups and the indicator of diameter.
