Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine pre-service social studies teachers' skills to plan and apply the activity-based teaching and contribute to their development of these skills. In the study, the action research design of qualitative research was used. The sample of the study consisted of 6 pre-service teachers who were 4th year students at the Department of Social Studies Teaching of Atatürk University Kazim Karabekir Faculty of Education in the fall semester of 2014-2015. The data of the study were gathered using document review, observation, and interviews. Content analysis was used in data analysis. It was revealed in the research that pre-service teachers' skills for planning and implementing activity-based teaching improved remarkably and they gained some knowledge and skills regarding teaching profession and direction subject.
