Abstract

It is a virtual cliche that American society is in the midst of an unprecedented technological transformation in all aspects of social and economic life. Nowhere is technological restructuring of society more apparent than in business and industry. One might expect that knowledge on the effects of technological change would be highly developed. Yet opinions differ radically on whether technological change has positive or negative effects on workers, managers, business, or society at large.
