Abstract

Based on the study of the type of role in knowledge worker Reinhardt et al (2011), this article discusses actions taken by these professionals, by role and gender during their routines in intensive organizations. 44 researchers and teachers who work in Brazilian centers of R & D in biotechnology and computer science participated in the survey. Data collection was carried out with online questionnaire and for data analysis it was used the quantitative method. The results showed that the most important role for both genders, male and female, was the Retriever, with 31 replies (74%); followed by Networker with 24 replies (57%). However, when examining the second most important role by gender the result was different. By applying the parametric test, t test for independent samples was identified that the variable type for the Sharer and Solver resulted, respectively, 0.0287 t test and 0.0395 t test; and the Application Usage variable, the Linker resulted in 0.04 t test. Results below the 0.05 threshold value shows that the null hypothesis was rejected and there is evidence of gender differences in the roles of knowledge workers. Considering the limitation of the study understand the profile of the knowledge worker and their differences in the dynamics of work, from creation to the process of knowledge management benefits the organizations seeking to continually adapt to new forms of work, to impact productivity and promote advantage competitive in the market.
