Message-Level Security with JSON Web Signature

Abstract

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) provides a way of exchanging data in a language-neutral, text-based, and lightweight manner. It was originally derived from the ECMAScript programming language. JSON and XML are the most commonly used data exchange formats for APIs. Observing the trend over the last five years, it's quite obvious that JSON is replacing XML. Most of the APIs out there have support for JSON, and some support both JSON and XML. XML-only APIs are quite rare.
