This chapter describes how laws punishing child sexual abuse evolved in India. The international guidelines to be followed while dealing with child sexual abuse, the background which led to enactment of such laws in India, are mentioned. Indian law has recently evolved to the extent of adopting a multi-pronged legislative approach by assigning specific roles to stakeholders like NGOs through legislation and allied rules. This chapter makes recommendations for strengthening the role of such NGOs involved in child protection.
