Abstract

Basic concepts of fatigue in oxides, carbides and nitrides are the subject of this chapter. Cyclic cycles are illustrated, and the fundamental equations are presented. S–N relations discussed in the section are important aspect of cyclic deformation. The most common oxides, carbides and nitrides discussed are alumina, magnesia, zirconia and silicon nitride.
