Chest wall injuries are common in blunt trauma and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality, that increase with age and number of rib fractures. Blunt chest traumas may injure every bone of the thorax. Management of chest wall injuries often requires a multidisciplinary approach, focusing on three basic principles: pain management, management of pulmonary dysfunction, and in some cases surgical fixation.
