Abstract

This study attempts to integrate assistive technology to combine real scenery with virtual models or audios to improve the interactivity of teaching aid and provide students with learning disabilities an intuitive learning method. The key components are identifying tags for web-cam device and image processing device. This study is divided into training and testing steps. The training step allows researchers engaged in education to acquire interactive skills and to develop a unit course for their students. There are 3 cases in this study; in the testing step, students adopt real time interactive technology as a teaching materials. Feedback of those students from this research is observed as well. Results of this study demonstrate that interactive technology is not only an universal design for learning teaching material, but a highly effective teaching materials for students with learning disabilities, offering them an innovative and interesting medium on learning process. © 2012 Springer-Verlag GmbH.
