Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease with high mortality and morbidity worldwide. Patients with end-stage COPD frequently develop chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure associated with end-of-life. The rise of high-intensity non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (HINPPV) in COPD showed positive results. Concerning acute exacerbation of COPD, the use of NIV is a standard of care to treat respiratory failure.
