Epilogue

Abstract

The research presented in this volume dealt with issues such as how cultures in science and research (re)produce gender (in)equality, how traditional role images and working cultures impact on women's career development in academia, and how and why female and male scientific careers differ. The studies from South Africa, Germany and Austria provided fresh insights into several scientific fields of study, mainly from SET disciplines. Throughout the world fewer women than men study science, engineering and technology. However, mere access to education and study is not the solution to increasing women's proportions in SET.
