Abstract

In this paper we describe different research projects involving users with intellectual disabilities. All these projects aim to enhance daily life activities and make their social integration possible, as the use of interactive technologies plays a significant role in supporting their independence. The users' participation throughout the design process was essential for achieving a usable and accessible product. We conclude by underlying the importance of adopting a user centred design methodology for the specific user group and the potential of an adaptive system to improve their learning experience. © 2010 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
