Abstract

Lquids produced by flash pyrolysis of biomass contain a high quantity of oxygenated molecules determinig unwanted properties. Oxygen can be eliminated by catalytic hydrotreating. Typical hydrodesulfurration catalyst supported on alumina have shown good activity for hydrodeoxygenation of model compoundsrepresenting the real oils but they are immediately deactivated by coke deposition. This paper deals with the utilisation of a new catalytic system supported on activated carbon. Results are presented comparing two carbon supported catalyst to two other supported on alumina. Activity constants and selectivities have been calculated for each model compound and all catalyst. Reactions pathways and final products are presented for each reaction. The influence of acidity and the catalyst mechanism are discussed
