Abstract

Collaborations between universities and the communities they serve are not new. But, often, they have been consultancies more than true collaborations. Sparked by the broadened definition of scholarship articulated by Ernest Boyer (1990) and by public calls for scholarship that addresses the needs of families and communities, outreach is moving from the service entrance to the front door of the academy, and many campus-community collaborations are marked by a new level of reciprocity.
