Abstract

It is clear that educational technologies are being introduced at an increasing rate. It is also clear that many of today’s students have grown up with digital technologies. What are the implications for the design of effective learning environments and instructional systems give such changes? Many have predicted that radical changes in learning designs are required, although there is insufficient evidence to support the claims of effectiveness of many of the proposed changes. This chapter recognizes changes introduced by new technologies and new learners. However, recalling lessons that have been learned or should have been learned from previous educational technology integration efforts are vital in making sustained, systematic, and systemic improvements in learning and instruction.
