Physical therapists induce subjects to train basic movements and activities of daily living, which is consequently related to muscle strengthening training. Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is the method in which a physical therapist touches a subject directly and gives resistance. It cannot be denied that learning of PNF method takes a long time. This article reviews the basic and special techniques of PNF and the applications, especially for the increase in muscle contraction and improvement in muscle coordination. © 2003, The Society of Physical Therapy Science.
