Abstract

Fatty acid patterns of the total, neutral, glyco-, and phospholipid fractions of the leaf and of the protoplasts from the bean (Phaseolus vulgaris), tobacco (Nicotinia tobacum) and the petunia (Petunia hybrida) and of the protonemata and protoplasts of mosses (Ceratodon purpureus and Leptobryum pyriformi) were detd. Comparisons between hypocotyl tissue and protoplasts clearly showed a pronounced decrease of polyunsatd. fatty acids and an increase of satd. fatty acids such as palmitic and stearic acids in the protoplasts. In the mosses, the changes in fatty acid patterns showed a strong shift from polyunsatd. to satd. fatty acids in the protoplast as compared to the protonemata. The role of stress in protoplast isolation on the fatty acid compn. of the protoplast is discussed. [on SciFinder(R)]
