Abstract

Intelligence, talent and creativity are probably the terms from pedagogical psychology that are perhaps less discussed in science and more discussed in public with the most frequent, intensive and often extremely controversial. It is precisely in view of this dissemination that it is astonishing, firstly, how inconsistently these terms are used in science and, secondly, to what extent insights from intelligence and talent research find their way into the consciousness of the public. In this chapter we would like to deal with definitions and terms and collect findings and insights of intelligence and talent research as it seems relevant for the practical work of teachers. This includes theories and findings, especially for schools, that address the relationship between intelligence as a stable personality trait and performance development, and the importance of intelligence for performance development compared to other traits of the person and the learning environment. To illustrate the interplay of very different factors in the context of performance development, the Munich Dynamic Talent Performance Model by Perleth (2001a) is used. (translated by DeepL)
