Abstract

Presents a model, in the form of a one-dimensional diffusion-advection-reaction equation, expressing POC degradation as a function of the biomass concentrations in size classes of benthos. This modeling approach may be useful in elucidating the role of particular benthic size classes (e.g., the bacteria) in the degradation of sedimentary organic matter, and in predicting rates of mineralization at various levels within the sediment column. -from Authors
