Abstract

Mesembryanthemum L. 1753: 480 nomen conserv.; McVaugh 1974: 820--821; Bittrich 1987: 5--116; Gerbaulet 2001 in Hartmann 2001: 35, 52, 143--153; Klak et al. 2007: 737--756; Gerbaulet 2012: 187--198; Klak & Bruyns 2013: 197--206{\thinspace}≡{\thinspace}Gasoul Adanson 1763: 243 nomen illeg. Lectotypus M. nodiflorum L., typus conserv. ≡ Gasoul nodiflorum (L.) Rothmaler Etym incorrectly from Gk mesembria (not mesembrya) mid-day, anthemon, flower, referring to the flowers which open during midday; or correctly from Gk mes-, middle, embryo, embryo or ovule, anthemon, flower, referring to the free axile placentation of the flower{\thinspace}={\thinspace}Gynicidia Necker 1790: 81 nomen invalid. Typus not given.
