Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to explore the local social work practice in light of Islamic teachings, especially in Bangladesh. Discussion will focuses on a research that was conducted in the District of Gaibandha in Bangladesh during the period of November 2018 to December 2018. The study examined the Islamic based social work activities or programs that were operated by Muslim orphanages and mosques. Data collection involved 10 orphanages (Islamic NGOs) and 10 mosques via in-depth interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs). Key informants involved those who were among the ustads/imams (religious leader) and teachers serving at the orphanages.
