Abstract

An applicability evaluation model of human factors methods was constructed for the whole life cycle of a complex human-machine system. With the development of ergonomics, the collection of human factors methods has increased, and the most demanding challenge encountered by ergonomists is deciding the most appropriate methodology to address their goals. Based on a literature analysis, we used fuzzy theory and created an evaluation system with six evaluation factors, namely, the training time, app time, cost of labor, cost of tools used, reliability and validity to construct the model. We used the model to calculate the score of each method to obtain the recommended method. In the application section of the manuscript, we employed the model to analyze a specific human factor problem. The applicability evaluation model proposed in this paper can guide the decision-maker to select a suitable method in line with the situation.
