Abstract

We have calculated the change of the electronic states of C atoms irradiated by an XFEL as a function of time in order to study the damage of bio-molecules. We have treated various parameters such as pulse length, wavelength, flux of an XFEL, and bio-molecule size. This study gives valuable information for experiments of the diffraction patterns of single bio-molecules, which are employed to study their three dimensional structure. © 2009 IOP Publishing Ltd.
