Abstract

When soccer playing results in a serious injury, time lost from play and re-injury are the most common complications that could be challenging for any professional player. Prevention of injury must be the first aim of a sports physician. Before discussing the preventions, we must understand the epidemiology and the mechanisms of soccer-specific injuries. In order to standardize a common scientific language which will provide the mechanisms and definitions of the injuries, sports physicians, and sports traumatologists need a worldwide consensus on this subject such as UEFA model Prevention must begin as soon as the player trains in an organized level. Regular exercises are not sufficient for prevention solely. Strategies must include education (starting from youth soccer), eligible environmental conditions and equipments, and finally F.I.F.A’s “fair play.”
