Digital images are potentially a rich source of spatially referenced information but often their use in GIS is restricted; either because internal representations do not allow access to content-dependent information or do not provide adequate context-dependent information and functionality for querying and retrieval. This paper proposes a generic, extensible, object-oriented framework for achieving seamless integration of GIS and digital images.
