Abstract

Acid butanol assay of loblolly pine needle foliage. Abs. measured at 550 nm and concentration determined by E1%cm = 302. Pine foliage extracted with methanol 2x followed by acetone:water 1:1. Acetone-water removed tannins not extracted with methanol. Tannin rapidly disappears from decomposing litter. 80% of tannin gone after 183 days.
