Abstract

Archaeologists should not assume that archaeological laboratories are without health and safety risks. This chapter briefly reviews some of the main hazards that can occur in archaeological laboratories and the protocols to mitigate them, outlines the elements of a safely equipped lab, and introduces some of the more relevant hazard labels and international systems for the classification and labelling of hazardous materials.
