Abstract

This chapter deals with the main issues that the pathologist faces when dealing with cases of ductal carcinoma in situ. These include methods of handling various types of specimens, problems encountered on reporting core and excision specimens of DCIS, diagnosing microinvasion, and the use of immunohistochemistry to confi rm the diagnosis in certain situations. There is also a discussion of rare types of DCIS as well as DCIS arising in the context of columnar cell change and following neoadjuvant therapy.
