Abstract

Strategic business management towards economic development and the achievement of sustainable development objectives is based on comprehensive management, which is based on financial information. Therefore, the objective of this research is to diagnose and characterize the degree of contribution of economic-financial information to the development of small and medium-sized companies in Tunja-Colombia, and the effects on profitability. The applied methodology is quantitative using linear regression, and with a descriptive approach through frequency analysis. It starts from a population of 377 small and medium-sized companies, registered in the Chamber of Commerce, from which a sample of 159 companies is obtained, with accounting data for 2021. The results allow us to affirm that 80% of the companies manage the accounting information in an integrated manner using ICT. This factor, added to compliance with the criteria and characteristics of IFRS, is met on average in 67% of the economic sectors, which already produce quality information; Likewise, the preparation and application of the financial report as a basis for decision-making proved to contribute to the increase in the economic profitability of companies
