Abstract

The cytotoxicity of the methanol extract of Origanum syriacum against human cerivical adenocarcinoma, Hela cells, was evaluated by the MTT assay. From the crude extract, a new flavone glycoside, acacetin-7O-[2″-O-α-L- rhamnopyranosyl-6″-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl]- beta;-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with the ten known flavonoids luteolin (2), apigenin (3), luteolin-6-C-glucoside (4), luteolin-3′-methylether-6-C-glucoside (5), luteolin-7,4′-dimethyether-6-C-glucoside (6), apigenin-7- mefhylefher-6-C-glueoside (7), apigenin-7-O-glucoside (8), diosmetin-7-O- glucoside (9), acacetin- 7-O-glucoside (10) and acacetin-7-O-rutinoside (11), was isolated from the methanol extract of the aerial parts of Origanum syriacum. The structure elucidation of the isolated compounds was performed by spectroscopic and chromatographic methods.© 2009 Verlag der Zeitschrift für Naturforschung.
