Abstract

The arrival of intraocular lenses and phacoemulsification have influenced the manner in which the anterior capsule is opened. In an attempt to improve centration, positioning of the implant and the strength of the edge of the capsulotomy, many techniques have been proposed and new ways are still being developed. This chapter presents an overview of the past, present and future of opening the anterior capsule.
