Abstract

From glandular trichome of Rosa rugosa, three major sesquiterpene hydrocarbons [acora-3(4),7(15)-diene, carota-4(5),l l(12)-diene (isodaucene) and carota-1,4-diene], and two minor [daucene and acora-3(4),7(8)-diene] were identified. The presence of these carotadienes, which are possibly precursors of the corresponding C-14-oxygenated carotanoids, suggested that the formation of the carotane skeleton followed by the regio-specific oxygenation at C-14 occur in the biosynthesis of R. rugosa carotanoids. © 1992, Walter de Gruyter.
