Abstract

Regulation of genetic testing in Canada is complicated by the unique distribution of responsibilities for health services amongst federal and provincial/territorial ministries of health • No over-arching regulations or guidelines for quality assurance or delivery of genetic testing services exist in Canada leading to different levels of regulation in each jurisdiction • Although most provinces offering genetic services voluntarily conform to recommended standards regarding genetic testing services, there is a need for federal guidelines to ensure that minimum standards for quality and patient/consumer protection are met
