Abstract

The article raises a discussion about the effects and territorial transformations derived from the IX South American Games held in the city of Medellin in 2010 and its relationship with urban development, the city's corporate governance actions, the strategies that are circumscribes for the globalized production of space and territorial experience. It describes how the legacy of this mega-event sparked the modification of socio-spatial uses in the Atanasio Girardot Sports Unit, affecting the vital experience of a group of vendors who were part of the configuration of the territorial and sports identity of this sector of the city. For this, the stories of the organizers of the event, vendors of the area and users were recovered, and the official documentation was analyzed, problematizing it from the critical geography and the sociology of the sport.
