Abstract

Arenosa Shelter, a large alcove cut into the cliffs bordering the west bank of the Pecos River in west Texas, is filled with overbank flood deposits separated by cultural habitation layers. The archeologic and geologic stratigraphy in the shelter can be used to evaluate the present hydrologic regime of the river and the changes in its regime throughout the Holocene. The 1954 Hurricane Alice flood was probably greater than a 2000 yr event.-from Authors
