Wound healing in the elderly depends on the aforementioned risk factors and fundamental principles of wound management. Good results can be obtained through the realization that the elderly patient is an immunocompromised host requiring a prompt, definitive treatment based on a thorough history, physical examination and appropriate consultations with other health care professionals.
