Abstract

Paediatric neuro-ophthalmology is now gaining importance as a separate sub-speciality. This chapter attempts to discuss some neuro-ophthalmic disorders common in the paediatric population. It includes paediatric optic neuritis, which differs in its presentation and prognosis from that in adults, and discusses about the associated systemic disorders such as ADEM, multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica. Idiopathic intracranial hypertension can also affect children and can have certain differences from the manifestation of the disease in the adult age group. The newer trends and relevant literature have been covered. Cortical or cerebral visual impairment is a complex disorder that affects multiple aspects of vision and its perception and has been explained with relevant clinical details. The chapter also includes congenital optic disc anomalies such as optic nerve hypoplasia, morning glory syndrome among others.
