Abstract

In our search for a peaceful and feasible resolution to the energy problem, space-based capabilities can play an important role. This chapter discusses the nature of the energy problem as it stands today and examines some of the possible ways that space-based capabilities can be used to address the challenges and create new opportunities. The main focus of this chapter is on the role of space based capabilities for the management of terrestrial energy sources. The chapter also includes three case studies which focus on the use of EO data within the energy sector. © 2009 Springer Netherlands.
